Stochastic Process Algebras: From Individuals to Populations
In this paper we report on progress in the use of stochastic process algebras for representing systems which contain many replications of components such as clients, servers and devices. Such systems have traditionally been difficult to analyse even when using high-level models because of the need to represent the vast range of their potential behaviour. Models of concurrent systems with many c...
متن کاملDeriving Symbolic Representations from Stochastic Process Algebras
A new denotational semantics for a variant of the stochastic process algebra TIPP is presented, which maps process terms to Multiterminal binary decision diagrams. It is shown that the new semantics is Markovian bisimulation equivalent to the standard SOS semantics. The paper also addresses the difficult question of keeping the underlying state space minimal at every construction step.
متن کاملStochastic Process Algebras
In this tutorial we give an introduction to stochastic process algebras and their use in performance modelling, with a focus on the PEPA formalism. A brief introduction is given to the motivations for extending classical process algebra with stochastic times and probabilistic choice. We then present an introduction to the modelling capabilities of the formalism and the tools available to suppor...
متن کاملStochastic Process Algebras and their Application to
In this tutorial we present two major applications of process algebras to performance modelling. The rst is the use of classical or timed process algebra to verify simulation models. The second is the direct use of stochastic process algebras to construct and solve performance models. The tutorial presents an overview of the current trends and areas of active research, as well as their implicat...
متن کاملStochastic Process Algebras Applied to Failure Modelling
In the past we concentrated on the conceptual design and theoretical foundation of stochastic process algebras and applied this promising method mainly to the performance evaluation of multiprocessor and distributed systems. Nevertheless, we demonstrated at the READPAC– Workshop in principle and by an example how to apply these ideas to the description of reliability aspects. Our current versio...
